Why Mother’s Day Weekend Made Me Cry

mothers day

This Mother’s Day weekend hit me hard this year for some reason. Maybe it was because my birthday fell the same weekend as the day we celebrated the moms in our lives.

I am missing one member of my family so I’m having a hard time seeing other people’s posts about Mother’s Day. Even the prom pictures bother me. Maybe because I missed her prom last year.

Movie night

On Saturday night after my birthday dinner with my son and parents to my favorite Mexican restaurant here in town, I decided to watch a movie on Netflix called The Journey Home.

I don’t know why I picked this movie. A young polar bear cub gets separated from his mom, and a boy decides to get the cub back to his mom.

The movie was 4 1/2 stars so that caught my eye, and then seeing animals were part of the storyline sealed the deal. I am a sucker for anything related to animals.

Little did I know the ending would trigger some tears thinking about my own situation. The movie was great, and I would highly recommend.

Mother’s Day

My small family spent a few hours at my brother’s house, eating pizza and enjoying our time together. I got hugs from my two nieces, which is always a great thing. I sure miss my hugs from my own female child.

I came home and took a long nap. I didn’t mean to sleep as long as I did and knew the minute I woke up at 7 p.m. that I would regret that long nap.

And I did.

I couldn’t go to sleep later. I read in a personal development book called You Are a Badass, hoping it would lull me to sleep.

Nope. Not at all. Midnight rolled around before I could finally doze.

Before I went to bed, I posted on Facebook about my day, thanking everyone for the birthday wishes and hoping my mom friends had a good day.

Then I posted the link to last week’s blog post from my author website. I felt bad when my mom posted about how I had her crying. Tears came to my own eyes as I realized what she had commented was right.

I needed to read that. I needed to know that I am doing the right thing even at times when I feel like I’m not.

Writing this week

I did pretty well keeping up with my writing this week. In fact, I got rewarded for my work in the 365K Club on Friday because I had hit my word count goal for the month.

I wrote two of the three blog posts for this week. I totally spaced writing last Sunday’s Week in Review, but at least I wrote the other ones and am getting into a routine.

This week’s Week in Review is going to be posted on Monday, and I may leave it on Monday since I have had trouble posting on Sunday for the past two weeks.

I wasn’t sure I wanted to have two posts to do on the same day, but it makes sense to do them the same day since I am writing mode on Monday anyway.

I will keep pushing myself to work toward my goals. I am determined to make this year a great one.

What’s one great thing that happened to you this past week?
