Orlando Tragedy Hits Us Hard This Weekend

writing

This weekend has been a weekend of tragedy. Of course, the gun law debate comes up every time a mass shooting happens.

Having grown up with a dad who carried a handgun, I grew up having respect for guns. I don’t have a gun in my house now, but at times like these, I sometimes wish I did. There will probably come a time when that will be the only way we can protect ourselves.

Yesterday morning I woke up to read about the death of Christina Grimmie from The Voice. I watched The Voice almost since it started on television in 2011. I look forward to it every year.

I remember a couple of years ago when Christina was on there. What a talented singer she was!

Even though, she didn’t win that year, I thought for sure she would do well. However, we won’t find out now.

This morning I wake up to another tragedy in Orlando — a mass shooting a nightclub. What in the heck is going on here?

I live in a small town and like to think I’m safe here, but at some point in the future, I would like to travel more. I dream of buying a small house or condo in Florida so I can winter down there.

I would like to settle in a small non-tourist kind of town. But I have to wonder if I will be safe. Am I safe anywhere?

1. 6 Strategies to sleep soundly, Wake Rested, and Accomplish More

I’ve had trouble sleeping off and on since my kids were born. I used to think it was because I was a mom of young kids, but as they got older, I still can’t sleep very well.

That is until I started taking EHT, but that’s another story.

These tips in this article are ones I’ve read before, but it always helps to read them again. I’m learning the more times you read or hear something the more you understand.

2. Never forget: Last 9/11 Ground Zero search dog dies just shy of 17th birthday

It’s hard to believe that 9/11 happened 15 years ago this September. I can remember that day like it was yesterday. But it could be because I was connected to a person who died that day.

Animals mean so much to me. I have a cat and two dogs who I spend time doting over every day and treat them like my children.

I read this story about the last 9/11 dog and had tears come to my eyes. What a brave dog she was. RIP Bretagne

3. 15 Things to Do When You’re Feeling Stressed

We all deal with some stress, but the last couple of years for me have been especially stressful. I found this article to be helpful for new ideas.

I’ve started journaling more again, but I like the gratitude journal. I have started using an app called Five Minute Journal. The app was free from the Starbucks app so I thought I would give it a try.

And I’m glad I did. I haven’t done the journal every day even though it reminds me two times a day, but I’m getting into a routine of using it. Like the app says, it takes five minutes to do.

What do you think about what’s happened this weekend in Orlando?
