Reading other writers’ blogs helps you to be a better writer whether you write fiction or nonfiction or you freelance. What writer blogs do you read?
I read and follow a few different writer blogs. I find different tips from each one. And I find that each one helps me in a different aspect of my career goals.
These five blogs are the ones I read the most depending upon which aspect of my writing career I am focusing on at the moment.
Carol Tice
For over a year I belonged to the Freelance Writers Den. Carol Tice runs Make a Living Writing and has that website along with her own personal freelance website.
If you can afford the $25 a month to belong to this website, I strongly recommend it. I learned so much during the year I belonged.
As part of the Freelance Writers Den, Carol uses this website to help other freelancers and teaches them what she has learned in her years of freelancing. She has boot camps every so often, and they are posted there for review.
She has guest blogging for those who wish to do that. She offers many insights on becoming a freelance writer.
I also belong to her email list so that I get her blog posts. That is the easiest way to make sure I don’t miss hers or anyone else’s!
Jeff Goins
Goins, Writer is Jeff’s website, and he’s a writer that has made an impact on me in the last couple of years. Or, at least, I have paid more attention to him.
I was able to get his book, The Art of Work, last year and read through it quickly. I couldn’t put it down once I started, and I even reviewed this book.
The book offers so much insight as to what your calling is in life. I found it very interesting because he gave me lots of things to think about and helped me focus on what I want to do with my writing.
Like Carol’s blog, I follow Jeff through his email list. At least a couple of times a week, he sends an email telling us about a new blog post. Jeff also shares tips about writing books, and I tend to follow him a little bit more than I do Carol because of this.
K.M. Weiland
KM is a fiction writer as well as a nonfiction writer. Her website, Helping Writers Become Authors, is another helpful one.
She writes books about writing such as Outlining Your Book and Structuring Your Book. I have both of these books as well as the workbooks that go along with each one of them. KM offers great advice for those who are writing fiction. The website is a great resource that supports these two books as well as her other writing books.
While I don’t follow her email list, I do follow her on Facebook. KM posts links to her website there so I read her blog posts that way.
I love how she interacts with her fellow writers on her Facebook page. She has replied to my comments I’ve made from time to time.
Nick Stephenson
Nick is an author I met through a Facebook page called World Literary Café founded by Melissa Foster. Nick has written a couple of books about how to start an email list and how to get your readers to subscribe to your email list.
I have read his one short book called Reader Magnets and found it to be quite helpful. This book helps writers form an email list and how to use that email list to draw in and gain readers for your blog as well as your novels.
Joanna Penn
I have read a couple of Joanna’s writing books as well as used her website, The Creative Penn, as a resource. Her website was one of the first ones I found when I first decided to self-publish. She has updated it as she adds new writing books.
I like how Joanna organizes her website so you can find exactly what you need as you self-publish your novel. You should have no problem finding what you need.
A couple of her books that I have found helpful are How to Market a Book and Business for Authors. I haven’t quite finished the second one, but it’s a life goal for me to be a full-time writer.
And I’m pushing for that goal to happen by the end of the year.
